Not really. In most of the world, tipping is optional, yet people still receive great service. One reason is that many countries treat hospitality as a profession. Depending on the country and the type of restaurant, servers often receive formal training, vocational education, or other professional qualifications. Career progression and higher pay come from experience, skills, and additional qualifications—not from relying on tips alone. Tips are often just an extra reward for exceptional service, not the main source of income. So I don’t think removing a tip-dependent system would automatically lead to worse service, because many countries already prove that it doesn’t.

I am not tipping. I am not there to pay your wages. I am not your employer.

Your whole argument is BS, everywhere else in the world has overheads and food is still affordable.

Fun fact. In countries that pay them a good wage they get tipped on their actual service so the good ones get paid even more…

In the uk “servers “ have to be paid the national minimum wage and people still tip for good service. I usually agree with you Quinn but I’ve never understood why the us can’t do the same

Just because someone gets paid the liveable wage doesn't mean everyone stops tipping. It just means you are relying on the tips to pay the bills.

you understand that tips are a bonus for great service....not an expected pay.... so skip the preset tip percentages

You don’t get rid of tipping… you pay a liveable wage, with tips given for service, not as an expectation… That’s how it works across Europe and most of the world.. 🤷♂️
