When we worked with a trainer with our fearful dog, she told me that dogs really look to your reaction to see if something is scary. So it seems counterintuitive, but instead of comforting them, if you act like nothing happened, they may still be scared at first but will eventually learn that it’s no big deal. Comforting them by petting them or saying “it’s ok it’s ok!” confirms for them that they should be scared. Every dog is different, but I wanted to share bc this has helped not only our dog but my parents dogs as well with their fear of storms! Sending love to Midge 🥺🤍

Our rescue girl is the same. We set her up in the closet with a fan & white noise playing loud in the bathroom & our bedroom & the TV on on the living room. On the 4th we give her some medication so she can sleep through it 😕

My dog growing up was terrified of thunderstorms and fireworks. Our vet prescribed her something for those times that really helped her relax. Maybe an option if that’s something that you’re comfortable with 🥰❤️
