Grab your beer! As Africans, we are not thought history so we have a whole generation who doesn’t know what happened to them. Africa went through hell. The transatlantic slave trade which happened for over 400yrs from early 16th century to around 1867, this destroyed the African demography, this interrupted the natural progress of African continent. And this was driven largely by Britain, Spain, France, Portugal n Netherlands. More than 17-20 million Africans were traded n some killed on the process. Just when the need for human physical labour was no longer needed and world needs shifting to raw materials, that’s when colonialism came in, the Europeans in order not to have conflict of interests then decided to have a meeting in Berlin, the popular Berlin conference in 1884-85, where they partitioned Africa for themselves, 14 countries were in attendance. The division didn’t pay attention to our differences like languages, tribes, kingdoms, rivalries…! 90% of what was done then in Berlin reflects the African maps today. This action further deepened our collective problems as we now have countries with multiple cultures who don’t understand each other. So we should understand that we’re a reflection of what some few men decided of us and knowing this should make not fight any African but rather unite as a common people who have been through hell to discuss our way forward collectively. They united to divide us, we should not remain divided but rather join together and use our strength.
