I suggest you look at the declaration of independence. Most cities and colleges were started by religious groups. Look at the writings of all the 56 founders every one of them spoke of divine Providence. The American religious tracks were established by the founders many of the hymns were written by the founders. The first American Bible used to teach Christianity in the public schools, was established by the founders.

You have to read all the documents before the constitution. The Declaration of independence for example. The Federalist papers are examples.
