Squidward was probably so grumpy all the time from something terrible that happened to him and he felt like a burden but to keep everyone safe from himself he comes off cold and mean and SpongeBob could see how Squidward truly was and wanted to show him that Squidward isnt a burden but a good person and he never understood what SpongeBob was doing. I might be yapping tho
