The confession in the novel was even heavier. Father Anan never said his love for Barth was na ultimate sin. It was a sin because it was in conflict with his duties as a seminarian, he was supposed to serve and love God above all but then came Barth. And after going out of the seminary, just like everyone, he was human and his love for Barth was just a love with pure intention. He was able to love Barth and himself, and still carry with him his faith. 🫂

One of the most important moments for me was that Tanrak's apology is for how he treated Father Anon and others, never that he was gay or chose Barth and their love. And the fact that the forgiveness offered is for his behavior in abandoning those he feared couldnt't love him as he was -- never once did Father Anon alude that he needed forgiveness for choosing himself. This is what really made the return to faith work for me. Because after all, there was room in God's love for Tanrak as he is.

This scene had me bawling, tears started when he told Barth that he remembers all of his boys. The path we walk can be incredibly lonely, and to be remembered in love, is a feeling I can only dream of experiencing 😭
