it begins in the first story in the bible. God tells Adam and Eve if they ate of the fruit they'd surely die, while the snake told them they'd be like God. when they ate, God himself confirms the snake's statement by saying they're truly like us, but they never died. death only came secondary to be chased off the garden away from the tree of life, not a result of eating the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil..
