Open Letter of Condemnation and Appeal for Urgent Action in Sudan To: His Excellency António Guterres, Secretary-General, United Nations (UN) His Excellency Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson, African Union Commission (AU) His Excellency Josep Borrell Fontelles, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, European Union (EU) His Excellency Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General, League of Arab States (Arab League) International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) World Food Programme (WFP) World Health Organization (WHO) Amnesty International Human Rights Watch Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) International Rescue Committee (IRC) Save the Children And All Humanitarian and Relief Agencies Concerned with Global Peace and Human Rights Subject: Urgent Appeal to Stop the Genocide and Protect Civilians in Sudan Your Excellencies, Distinguished Leaders, and Humanitarian Representatives, As an African and Ethiopian citizen, I write with deep sorrow and moral urgency regarding the ongoing genocide, mass killings, and humanitarian catastrophe in Sudan. Innocent civilians — including children, women, and the elderly — are being brutally killed, displaced, and starved as conflict engulfs Darfur and other regions. What is unfolding in Sudan is not merely a civil war; it is a human tragedy of immense proportions, threatening to erase entire communities while the world watches in silence. I strongly condemn the systematic violence and ethnic cleansing being carried out against defenseless people. The destruction of villages, targeted assaults on communities, and denial of humanitarian access are grave violations of international humanitarian law, the UN Charter, and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights. We, as Africans and members of the human family, cannot remain silent. The United Nations, African Union, European Union, Arab League, and all humanitarian organizations must act urgently and decisively. I therefore call upon you to: 1. Publicly and unequivocally condemn the genocide and crimes against humanity in Sudan. 2. Enforce an immediate ceasefire and protect civilians through strengthened international peacekeeping operations. 3. Guarantee humanitarian access for aid organizations to deliver food, water, medicine, and shelter. 4. Hold perpetrators accountable through the International Criminal Court (ICC) and other international justice systems. 5. Provide emergency humanitarian support for refugees and internally displaced persons facing famine, disease, and violence. 6. Promote inclusive peace negotiations to secure a just and lasting peace for all Sudanese communities. The people of Sudan deserve peace, justice, and dignity. The world must not allow another genocide to unfold while humanity remains silent. Let history record that Africa stood for Africa, and that global institutions upheld their moral duty to protect the innocent and the voiceless.
