I’d love to do that. But absenteeism is so bad that it takes a week just to get the majority of the kids to have sat the test. I can’t give back a test before all the kids have sat it.

Sometimes after a short lecture (15-20min), I’ll give a small worksheet and tell students if they complete before class ends, bring it to me and I’ll grade it and give 1/2 pt bonus on their next test. They respond well to these type of “treats”. They’ll run through a brick wall for extra credit points.

Middle School- I keep quarterly work in portfolio. I do feed back on assignment/online gradebook.

I don't know about this. If it worked for you , i'm glad it has been successful. I have a lot of assignments that are done online and are automatically graded. Instantly. No improvement in classroom conduct. I just don't really believe in this principle. That if you do something that shows you care , they're going to want to work harder. That's ridiculous. If a doctor gives you some guidance and they say , I really care about you does that make it more likely , you're gonna follow it.

fr my economics class doesn't give memos or feedback at all. they grade tests but dot even give the whole thing back and it's by far the course I struggled with most even though the material is easy

Same. Teacher with a MBA. It was tough finding time to grade my first year. Going into year 2 I promised myself I will be more proactive with grading.

What are some things you have the kids do during the first few weeks of school? I’m 3rd grade

My daughters teachers have all consistently not bothered to grade things or check work. The report cards are clearly copy paste. I see it as so demotivating.

how do you grade and return them SAME DAY?? i'm teaching the whole day, i don't have time to grade. and even if I did it would take me at least an hour, possibly more to finish 😕 tho i admit that i have to start grading faster, but sometimes it takes a while until everyone has done the exam cause someone always absent

Well, yeah, I mean you did say it that most of us probably do it most veteran teachers do that it’s always great to show awesome Work I also go over from other classes. I teach what an a looks like what a bee looks like with a C looks like what a D looks like just so they haven’t understanding of what my expectations are no names are ever shown and it’s always typed Work

What subject / grade do you teach? I feel like it’s near impossible to give work back quickly with actionable, individualized feedback as a high school English teacher because it’s so text and analysis heavy. Is there an online system you use or types of activities / questions you use?

What do you teach and how long is your prep? Because I’m an ELA teacher and I have all of 30 minutes each day for prep. I can’t lesson plan, set up the classroom for the classes, call parents, and grade 50 papers in 30 minutes. And like hell will I be bringing all that home.

Agree! I would check my students work with a red pen and once they finished their work they will wait until I checked it off with my red pen and get happy… instant grading does help.

I prefer a good crash out where I throw myself on the floor and ask the kids "why do you have to be like this" ... Usually they worry about me and stop.
