@cartbeforethehorsegirl: It took me around 20 neurologists to find my neck pain and nerve pain was occipital neuralgia. I don’t know if it’s just not common in the UK, but holy shit it hurts. What is it? The occipital nerves run from the upper neck into the scalp. When irritated, they can cause symptoms that feel like migraines, headaches, temple pain, eye pain, burning neck pain, or electric shock sensations across the head. The tricky part is that many people get diagnosed with migraines or chronic neck pain without anyone considering the occipital nerves. An occipital nerve block was the first treatment that gave me significant relief, BUT also muscle trigger point injections to relax my muscles that have been guarding my nerves for so long. If you’ve been dealing with chronic headaches, neck pain, or unexplained nerve pain, it may be worth discussing occipital neuralgia with your doctor. #OccipitalNeuralgia #OccipitalNeuralgiaPainRelief #NervePain #ChronicHeadaches #NeckPainRelief

I’m scared of getting the nerve block. I have hydrocephalus as well as Occipital neuralgia so I’m less afraid of surgery. Big needle while I’m conscious? Heck no

Is balance/dizziness also part of that? Bc I haven’t been able to figure that out for nearly 6 years. I have all the other symptoms you listed.

How do you get this diagnosed?! What type of dr do I need to see? I’m like 99% sure I have this after decades of thinking they were just migraines

I have been suffering with this for 17 years. It’s been a tough road. Had nerve decompression in 2012 and the relief lasted for a few years. I have been in a flare for the last 6 months. Starting Botox again in a couple weeks.

I’ve tried to ask a couple docs about this but it gets brushed off…it fits my symptoms, including my migraines starting as shooting pain from the neck up into my head behind my eye.

Yes, it took a long time for me to get diagnosed also. I get botox every 90 days and nerve blocks once a month. The condition is very painful.
