Ngl, the minute I learned that Amandla was casted as the main character and the controversy surrounding it, I knew things weren’t gonna end well 😔

Her posting herself blocking Amandla was wild. That is messy behavior. She knew who was in the movie and supported the cast.

I didn’t finish the book series because the plot points started giving bird-brained. The casting debacle confirmed it for me. Sorrows. Prayers.

She’s distancing because she knows it’s going to be a massive flop. The casting was BS.

This is why pierce brown hasn’t been able to adapt his series. It’s hard to find a studio that can be faithful to your books.

haven't read the book but this seems like a story better suited for animation anyway 🤷🏿‍♀️

I still wonder how authors allow Amandla to be casted as main characters in their movies when the book character is dark skin

Hmm :
The amount of Nigerians who were saying the books were poorly written and the names and whatnot made no sense culturally or linguistically turned me off from reading the books. That and the author saying only Nigerians would be cast but then not casting any fr threw me. As a Black American, that was so fvcked up fr and unnecessary. Every group within the diaspora deserves to be highlighted and the focal point of their own stories. Hopefully other series get picked up soon.

No bc I’m only watching this film bc of one person and if she wasn’t in it I wouldn’t waste my time like that bc how can you as the author tell bs lies and give young Nigerian actors hope that they would have their big break then double down, and eventually say you aren’t going to watch it. She should have kept this statement to herself talking about some “it’s been painful holding this back from you all” 🙄

Hear me out, given that the text she sent Ms amandla a month after the casting announcement, what if she didn’t entirely agree with the casting? What if?😭

This is also a lesson for creatives. It is important to not only copyright your work, but to also trademark. Once you own the trademark, you can license out your work to studios production companies, etc. when your negotiating the licensing deal there are things that you can put in the licensing deal. These things can include approval of casting a producer, credit a space in the writers room when it comes to turning the book into a screenplay. This is how you maintain leverage and keep the integrity of your work

Yall may not know this but Book authors DO NOT HAVE A SAY when it comes to TV adaptation. Show runners and production companies decides how they tell the story. Authors signs SLAs and get paid chunk of money. She has every right to support cast and also have right to be disappointed afterwards. It’s HER STORY!! Sending love from South Africa ✌🏿

Once they cast Amandla I was out anyways but this just makes it look even worse for people who might still have gone to see it.😩

I think a lot of people don’t know how things work, she never had as much power as some people think. It’s the productions movie, it’s the studios movie, she can have feedback but doesn’t mean it’ll be listened to. I feel like she believed in things the people above her told her were compromises that would lead to certain things but the compromises became too much
