@successwithkez: Saqifah is one of the most important and most misunderstood event in Islamic history. Understanding what happened doesn’t weaken faith. It helps us understand how the Sunni–Shia divide began. Study all the sources before reaching conclusions.

Ibrahim :
First of all, the funeral was attended by umar, abu bakr and abu ubaydah. During saqifah the family of the prophet were doing ghusl of his body but the janazah had not taken place neither did the burial. Second of all saqifah was necessary, the ansar had being trying to elect a leader from amongst themselves that would have annoyed the prophets family and the muhajireen and the newer reverts to islam. Abu bakr was seen as the natual successor due to his closeness to the prophet ASWS and because he was selected to lead the salah by the prophet himself whilst the prophet was unwell plus his election as khalifah would have satisfied most groups. Also, the immediate election was necessary because soon as some arab tribes heard of the death of the prophet ASWS they started to rebel and stop paying the zakah and even claiming people from their tribes were prophets, this led to the rida wars. The reason why ali took so long to give the bay'ah is because he was still in grief over the prophet ASWS, he believed the ahlul bayt should have been consulted at saqifah and there was a dispute between fatma RA and abu bakr RA over the inheritance of the prophet ASWS particularly the land of fadak. Abu bakr argued that the prophet said “We, the Prophets, do not leave inheritance. Whatever we leave is charity (sadaqah).” (Bukhari 3092). In regards to that hadith he said that the lands should be given in charity to the muslims but fatma RA argued that she should have been given it as inheritance. After around 6 months ali then decided to give the bay'ah after deciding that the unity of the muslims mattered most and he was then part of abu bakrs council and cooperated in religious ans political matters

The most disrespectful thing for me is when Abu Bakr and Umar decided to skip the prophets Janaza and instead fight over the political leadership, in my opinion, prophet Muhammad SAWA comes first regardless of what anyone says and his Janaza is the most important thing.

the elder was Hazrat Abu Bakr, RA, and it's natural that He will be leader. Hazrat Ali ,RA, was still young about 33 years of age. Janaza took place 3 days later. someone has to lead the Muslims.

depends what colour u put on it. one side say its a coup d'etat against syedna ali a.s and the other say it was an emergency decision to avoid internal conflict. its clear syedna ali a.s wasnt happy and he didnt give bayah for 6 mths. even then he called abu bakr r.a to his house and told him not to bring umar r.a. ignoring syedna ali for 3 of the appts of caliph eventually emboldened muawiyah and his clan which led to the massacre of karbala. the murder of the Prophet a.s family is the greatest tragedy and dishonour of this ummah. and the struggle between the ahlul bayt and the ppl of power continued for decades after that. the scholarship legitimised this robbery by saying we shouldnt talk about it. simple reason for that is power even today feels threatened by the message of imam hussein i.e no alledgiance to the crooked. hence saudi, turkish, or Pakistani tyrants still dont wish this message to be widespread. so we are divided into sects.
