It’s a massive, roughly spherical region of space that stretches nearly 330 million light-years in diameter. To understand how insanely huge and empty that is: our own Milky Way galaxy is part of a local cluster crammed with neighbors. If the Milky Way were in the center of the Boötes Void, we wouldn't have discovered other galaxies until the 1960s because the nearest one would be too far away to see with early telescopes. Astronomers estimate there should be at least 10,000 galaxies in a space that size. Instead, we’ve only found about 60. It’s a literal cosmic desert. But space gets even weirder when you look at how it manipulates time. According to Einstein’s theory of general relativity, gravity warps the fabric of space-time. The stronger the gravitational pull, the slower time moves. This isn't just a sci-fi concept; it’s a measurable reality. If you wore a hyper-precise atomic clock on your wrist and stood at sea level, your clock would tick slightly slower than an identical clock placed at the top of Mount Everest. Because the clock at sea level is closer to the Earth's center of mass, it experiences stronger gravity. Over a 70-year lifespan, a person living at sea level ages roughly 90 microseconds less than someone living high in the mountains.
