Sold for $18.7 million, making it the most expensive new car ever sold at the time. Built as a tribute to the legendary Type 57 SC Atlantic — the personal car of Jean Bugatti himself, which mysteriously disappeared before World War II and was never found. La Voiture Noire means “The Black Car.” There is nothing else to call it. Two and a half years to build. The buyer signed before a single panel was made. Nobody outside of Bugatti knows who owns it.
