Teaching is hard, the education system is tough right now BUT there are SO MANY things to love about teaching 🥰 Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to be perfect, romanticize everything you can, advocate for yourself and your colleagues as much as possible. You will do amazing! Have a great first year!

Just finished year 26 and I still love it. Some advice for years down the line…if you start to lose your joy with one grade level, try another. I was a kindergarten teacher for 15 years and loved it until I didn’t. Moved up to 4th grade and was told I’d hate it, but I love it even more. When teaching is your ministry (or calling) it will always be in your heart. ♥️

I generally think it’s a little rude/presumptuous to tell anyone what they will and won’t like if you don’t even know them and their personality over a period of time and if they haven’t asked you directly if they think you’d like/dislike something. With that being said, I’m going into my 17th year as an educator and a lot of people who say you won’t like it are just projecting because they are miserable in their career. There are a ton of variables that go into whether you’ll enjoy your career or not…grade band, school culture, how far you commute, big district vs. smaller districts, what subject you teach, support from leadership/colleagues, how open you are to refining your craft and just your personality and temperament along work other things. We run into something you’ve never done for the first time, you really don’t know what to expect, so expect to love some parts of it and expect to dislike some parts of it and after your first year, you’ll have some time to reflect and keep doing that every year. Hi girly! I am a 4th year teacher, best advice keep all little notes from students/parents in a binder, this will help for those hard days! And keep some sour candy for yourself this helps regulate nerves system!

I am going into year 4 and i am just like you I went to school for it! I truly love what I do! The problem is a lot people heart’s are not in it for they lack the passion! I am excited for you! Good Luck on your first year!!!

I will be a first year teacher this coming year and this is a second career for me. I’m so excited. I wanted to go to school for teaching but I let everyone talk me out of it. But I made the decision to go back and I now hold a master in teaching early childhood. I can not wait. During my student teaching I could tell this is where I was meant to be.
