Why don't you use Lego library? You then don't have to worry about displaying them and it's easier on the wallet and better for the environment 🙂

Buy the expensive sets. My son only asked for Legos for YEARS and we have purchased many of the big sets/buildings. They actually hold their value and you can often sell them for more than you paid (especially because they discontinue the buildings after a few years. It’s the best gifts because they get to enjoy it and then enjoy again when they sell them! We always displayed the buildings on shelves in my son’s room, but now that he is almost 17, the remaining sets are in the garage. Have fun! Legos are so good for the imagination and cognitive development.

A budget or a points system. Say you were buying one $30 set/month, he can get that or save that $30 towards a bigger set. Or say 1 point is $10, he might earn 3 base points each month based on your normal spend but can earn more for doing whatever you decide.

We look up the instructions for sets on the Lego website. Then we go to second hand lego stores to search for the pieces. Hard to find pieces we can order directly from Lego. That way my husband gets the thrill of hunting for the right lego pieces and the build lasts for 2 years instead of 2 hours 😆

I’m a lego adult and mom to a Lego obsessed boy. Only advice I can give is to not buy the Lego dupes. They don’t seem to fit together as well and frustrate the hell outta me 😂 Good luck on your son’s Lego journey 🤗

Target just started their twice yearly toy clearance and it includes Legos. Some sets are up to 50% off. I would take a look and do some stocking up. Sorry, that's the only advice I have. 🤣

18+ just means that the directions aren’t as simplified. Also, IKEA Billy Bookcase fits them perfectly. My 11 year olds display cases it’s completely full now. Embrace it

Sorry, there's no going back. This is my son at 8 years old with a 9,000 piece Titanic he completed by himself. Every flat surface in our house is now covered in 18+ LEGO sets.

My husband gets acrylic boxes to encase the Lego so it doesn’t get dusty or ruined by cats 😅

I would set up a way he can earn sets......especially when the time comes that they really start processing the separation and those big emotions spill over into over reactions. For dissplays, it might also be a good opportunity for him and grandpa to bond over learning wood working to build a cabinet or shelving units for displays

I feel you on this. My 9 year old knocks out builds so fast. His greatest wish is the Death Star LEGO that is $1000 and he is currently saving like a fiend trying to get it. He’s managed to save almost $400 in the past year, so maybe by 11 he will get to buy it.

I was OBSESSED with Legos as a kid. I got a half-ride scholarship for Architecture for college from it. Buy the Legos when you can. Don't take them apart when he goes on vacation. He'll never get over it. I'm 39 btw
