I’m sorry someone said this to you 😔 I’m lucky enough to have no idea what it’s like to personally live with a tube, my daughter however is not as lucky and so I have some experience dealing with tube feeds (NG) and it’s seriously like a full time job. Learning how to place the tube, troubleshoot if something is wrong, tape and tape and tape, learn the pump, dose the medications and the feeds and clean the pump and the syringes and on and on. I’m sorry that you have to go through this and I hope at the very least you have someone to clean your pump for you! But like my daughter, I’m happy you’re able to be safely fed, and I hope it’s not forever! ❤️

Why would anyone think having a tube in your body is convenient in any way. It’s convenient in the way it’s convenient that we have technology to help our bodies when needed but that’s about it

im in recovery for an ed (i know its not the same as what some of yall deal with) but any sort of tube used to be my worst nightmare. I cant imagine WANTING it

If anyone that uses a G-tube feels comfortable in this conversation, could someone explain to me more what it feels like in like the discomfort surrounding it? My little sister is nonverbal and she’s has a g-tube and I could never tell if she’s in pain or not, when certain meds get pushed or when she’s feeding.

I so get it. Thankfully my team will touch my GJ tube however anything related to my rare syndromes: SMAs, NCS, PCS, MTS. IS A 10 HOUR DRIVE!!

I don't eat anything orally and while I don't have to think about eating or cooking. I am constantly dealing by tube malfunctions, having to carry around a pump, and fighting to get my supplies and traveling is much more involved.

In addition to the response, this was such a great explanation of what a feeding tube entails. Even when it’s brought up for a medical conversation, even when medical resources and literature are read, even knowing people online… I feel fairly prepared for what could change but this really articulated most of the experience so well in one place, thanks.

Former nurse here… no one who says this has any idea. Management of a tube is so much. Glad it saves lives, but it's definitely not something to choose. Geez.

I don’t have one but I can imagine it’s also expensive if you don’t have insurance on. Nobody should be wishing to have anything relating to major medical issues and/or disabilities

I have to jump through so many hoops to consider my tube convenient for anything but survival. There’s so much more to being tube fed than the general public know and most of it is awful
