My Playstation has also always been my cd & DVD player since day 1. And I'm not getting rif of my cds & movies. So I'll just keep finding a console that plays my movies as well as my games. If Playstation has decided not to do so, then Playstation will not be my choice ever again

the more I read and hear gamers talk about this issue the more forced any conversation about something Nintendo does feels because bringing them up in your caption and suggesting Microsoft will preserve physical media is literally crazy. the game keycard was an option for developers presumably to encourage sales and they're literally the only game company that let's you share digital games with friends.

I say this is inherently misguided data on their part because of how the ps5 was released. Yes, covid did a lot of it, particularly at the start. But never before had I ever seen consoles nearly double their launch price. At the start everyone was willing to save and wait to try to get the disc editions. They were ALWAYS the first to sell out. And the digital editions were always the first to be restocked. Add into the mix that they’ve been climbing in price since the ram shortage and tariffs, it only made it harder to afford a disc edition. I think all those reasons are way more impactful to why they seen a rise in downloads. It’s not because it’s the preferred method so much as it’s the method they purposefully chose to support and this was probably their plan from the start.

I have just been looking at it from the stand point of; some physical copies of games can’t be played without an internet connection. This usually means they connect to a server or store your progress on the cloud. If something happens to said server it’s likely when you put that disc in it won’t go past the title screen as it can’t connect to a host. Yes you own the physical disc, but the digital work is still impeding your playability for many games.

They should be required by law to make physical or release on other platforms like pc. Not exclusively PlayStation.

the sad thing is their cost for the disc is minimal maybe a $1.50 per disc to produce a disc the rest of the cost will be there regardless so this is just wrong

I stopped buying physical disk when you needed to intal the games, to me that was just a key, I like physical I have 180+ on Switch 1, I love to back to full physical but they started long ago to kill the practice

if I have to pay to go online and buy digital games that I never own, then I expect the PAYSTATION for free, why should I buy a console in the first place, when everything can be taken away?
