Dehors also used in a different form, “en dehors de”, it means « apart from » « outside of », « excluding the ». It applies to both time and place. « Il est interdit de fumer dans un aéroport en dehors des zones fumeurs. » « Je peux te parler en dehors de mes heures de travail »

Thanks!!! "hors-jeu" in football means “offiside” ie outside the game. Informally, you might also use it for being out of the loop in everyday life …

This is really good!! but in English we don't say 'outside the rules' we say 'against the rules' - all the other examples were fine 😁😁 can you use 'hors de' instead of 'à l'extérieur'? or sometimes but not always?
