Diesel is much more convenient for us because: Diesel is much more economical (a 3.0l diesel can consume less fuel than a 2.0l gasoline engine), Diesel has brutal torque (especially when it is given an ECU tune and a downpipe), On twin turbo models, a simple ecu tune and a properly done EGR/CAT delete can give you 60hp, they have very reliable motors (I mean VERY reliable) such as M47, M57 which are simple, tuner-friendly and just bulletproof. These engines have the timing chain in the front (very easy to acces) and can be changed at a shop much cheaper than models with timing chain in the back (for example N57/N47). In my country the most popular diesel BMW is the E60 5 series, which you can see here ranging from 520D to 535D demons who can reach unreal torque

Because of the economic state of the whole region dating decades back as diesel was always cheaper and consumption is at least 30% less , they last longer, 90% of all cars here are diesels so second hand replacement parts are available cheaper than ones for petrol engines.
