If a Bird and a Fish Fall in Love, Where Will They Live?
To me, the answer is not about choosing the sky or the sea. It is about choosing each other.
Love is love. We cannot control who our hearts choose, even when two people come from completely different worlds. A bird and a fish may not share the same environment, but that does not mean they are incapable of loving each other. Their differences are not barriers to love—they are challenges that require patience, understanding, and commitment.
Many people say communication is the key to every relationship. While communication is important, I believe comprehension is even more powerful. It is not enough to simply hear each other's words; we must understand the meaning, emotions, fears, and intentions behind them. True comprehension allows two people to feel seen, accepted, and valued despite their differences.
Trust is what makes that understanding last. A bird must trust that the fish's love is genuine, even if it cannot fly beside it every day. A fish must trust that the bird will always return, even when it soars high above the sea. Love grows when two people stop trying to change one another and instead learn to appreciate each other's unique nature.
Based on my experience, two people from different environments can find it very difficult to build a relationship. Different upbringings, beliefs, values, and ways of seeing the world can create misunderstandings and obstacles. But when two people genuinely choose one another, they become willing to face those challenges together. Choosing each other every day is what allows them to overcome what once seemed impossible.
As a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I know that falling in love can be difficult. Sometimes, the person you love does not come from the same environment as you. There may be differences in family beliefs, religious values, traditions, or the judgments of society. Those realities can make love feel heavy and uncertain. Yet, if both people continue to choose each other with honesty, respect, and unwavering commitment, the relationship can endure. It may never be easy, but that does not mean it cannot work.
