@project.feline: Usually, people just assume a cat can't be as reliable as a dog at performing service tasks. But that's not true. With our test here with Callie, she had a 3 out of 3 accuracy. Did you know a cat actually has the advantage when it comes to distinguishing individual smells? Yes, a dog may have more receptors overall, but cats have 30 VR1 receptors while dogs have 9. What's so special about VR1 receptors, you may ask? These receptors allow the animal to distinguish individual smells better. So, with more of them, they can smell the littlest changes, which could give them an advantage in certain types of scent work. #servicecat #tasktrained #disabilityrights #ada #projectfeline

I actually studied this a little in college, and the problem with training cats is that they’re very smart like humans. Humans can choose if they want to do a job they’re trained to do and so can cats. Dogs will usually follow their training. This cat WANTS to be good at detecting allergens and she is. 10/10

my cat isn’t a trained service animal, but she’s taught herself panic attack responses. cats are so intelligent. more people should give them a chance.

my cat isn't trained as a service animal, but will scream at me minutes before I realize I'm close to passing out. we still don't know what is causing it, but my cat can tell before it happens and will not leave me alone until I sit down. after that she'll stay if I need comfort, or will get my partner. she's super smart and sweet!!!

Cats are such routine based creatures if you think about it, they can tell, they know times without a clock, they sense, they are incredible creatures, not downplaying service dogs but I wish they would really give cats a try more 😔

the fact that cats only do these kinds of things IF THEY WANT TO, that baby wants to keep you safe, and all the commenters experiencing the same thing, their cats really care about them, this just shows that cats can be just as caring as a dog (as long as they choose to be LOL)

I would take a service cat any day! I do want to train my mini horse as a mobility aid if I ever get to the point I need one.

my cat has stopped me from relapsing sooo many times. it’s like she knows what breakdowns are not a huge deal and which ones are bad enough to cause harm. she’s a registered esa for a reason, she’s so smart and she loves me 🥹 she always knows how to distract and help me

lowkey my cat taught herself to remind me to eat when i was struggling to do so, she'd meow at me till i followed her, would run to her bowl, eat a little, then run to the fridge and meow until i ate too 😭

Whenever I’ve been doomscrolling for too long my cat will come over and use his paw to push my phone down and get in my lap and stare at me while smacking my face until I pet him. Does that count as a service? 😂😂

I have a service cat! He notifies me of seizures, my heart tremors, when my blood deficient anemia gets really bad and when my anxiety spikes into panic episodes. My little night in shining armor. - Hercules

I mean I have a cat that knows if someone is high, if you’re high around him he runs to you and puts his paw on your face but that’s not really a service
