🪐Welcome to MARS! 🌈Utah’s colorful bentonite hills are seriously otherworldly. So much so that the Mars Desert Research Station is located there, where the researchers can test and experiment in an environment that mimics Mars! 🤩This place was on our bucket list for so long before we finally got to see it for ourselves. Golden hour sunset was the perfect time to watch the colors come alive! 🕵️‍♀️I first saw this place on Instagram several years ago and it took me a long time to find any information about where this was or how to visit. The scavenger hunt was fun but time consuming 😅 and it wasn’t until I scoured all of Utah with the satellite view on Google Maps that I found this location (and a few others, including the bentonite hills within Capitol Reef National Park). ⚠️While you can’t actually visit the research station itself, you can drive the dirt road on BLM land that borders the station and see the bentonite hills for yourself. This area is incredibly remote and traveling here is not for the faint of heart. Don’t attempt the drive in the rain or when the ground is wet because the dirt road will turn to mud and your vehicle can easily get stuck. There’s no cell phone service so getting help would be tricky too. There are also no trash facilities, no designated hiking trails, or any other amenities (like bathrooms) - this is truly a wild space! Have you heard of Utah’s bentonite hills before? #utahisrad #utahunique #utahtravels #desertvibes #desertlandscape #aerialvideo #adventureoften #adventuretravel #adventureoutdoors #usroadtrip
