@fishipedia.world: You can support the project directly through the link in our bio, helping the team continue documenting little-known Amazonian species in the wild. The Yaku Nawi project is helping document poorly known freshwater species in Ecuador, many of which have rarely, or never, been filmed alive. Meet Farlowella cf. knerii, a twig catfish filmed by the Yaku Nawi team in Ecuador’s upper Río Napo. Long, thin, armoured, pointy and brown, these fish blend almost perfectly with submerged wood, leaves and vegetation. They move slowly, hold onto surfaces with a sucker-like mouth, and graze while staying almost invisible. For now, we use cf. knerii because taxonomy in Farlowella is difficult, and several similar species occur in the upper Amazon. Around 32 Farlowella species are spread across South America, from the Orinoco and Paraná to the Maracaibo and Magdalena basins, and of course, the Amazon. #Farlowella #Ecuador #YakuNawi #Fishipedia
