I used to be extremely shy—I couldn't even bring myself to speak in front of a crowd—but after I took the HUMSS strand, I overcame that shyness. Whenever there were individual presentations, impromptu speeches, or recitations, I would actually volunteer to go first; it really helped me build self-confidence, and I learned a lot in the process.
