Bad Butter is a popular artisanal bakery in Bucktown Chicago founded by Chef Daniel Koester. 💵: $63 + tip Thoughts: The Sour Cream & Onion Croissant 9.7/10 was the best pastry of the day and maybe the best savory croissant I’ve ever had. The filling had a mashed potato-like texture and was SO addicting. I loved the Ruffles on top for the extra crunch. It was basically sour cream and onion heaven. I could genuinely eat five of these and not get tired of them. Devoured the entire thing. The Dark Chocolate & EVOO Bestock 8/10 is more of an acquired taste, but I found it addicting. It’s a crunchy flaky chocolate brioche topped with a sweet paste and rich, not too sweet chocolate cream. The olive oil on top adds an interesting flavor, but I don’t think it was necessary. The Pumpkin Roll with Pepita Cream Cheese 7/10 had a laminated cinnamon roll texture. I liked that the cream cheese wasn’t too sweet. The sides were crunchy, but the pastry itself wasn’t as flaky as I usually prefer. The Kouign Amann 7/10 was solid, with the crunchiest exterior of the day from its caramelized glaze and a soft, croissant like inside. The Honey Cornbread Canelé 6/10 had a perfectly crunchy exterior, but the inside was a little too gooey for me. It definitely tasted like cornbread, but the corn flavor wasn’t quite what I wanted. The Caramel Apple Monkey Bread 5/10 was super soft, almost like milk bread, with cinnamon sugar glazed apple pieces and cream on top. I think this one might be better warmed up. The Nduja, Arugula Pesto & Potato Danish 4/10 had a nice flaky texture, but the flavors just weren’t sitting right with me. I honestly had a hard time figuring out what I was tasting. Overall, this visit wasn’t as good as my first, but that sour cream and onion croissant alone is worth coming back for!!
