My husband thinks it for advertising. Your hand naturally tends to grab it at the ‘octopus’ part which means the whole label is still in view. Your hand doesn’t cover it. Coke has a similar shape but not as emphasized. We had this exact discussion yesterday when I got a Pepsi bottle and was asking the same thing. What the hell is this? 😂😂

It's due to sustainability. The punch in allows the plastic to be thinner, while still keeping rigidity of the bottle. Thinner plastic, while still being the same older shape would have more damage in transit etc. There's some blah blah about pressure and grip also.
