LEVEL UP your Elbow Lever on gymnastic RINGS! 💪🏼😎 The rings series has been welcomed by many and also slightly less welcomed by others - I understand this piece of equipment is bringing about mixed feelings! 🤭 We will be moving on to steel parallettes skills so in today’s tutorial you get a bit of both! The brilliant ELBOW LEVER is considered the be the most accessible lever in calisthenics so it’s BEGINNER-friendly. ☺️ But, for those who are ready to progress, we are taking the elbow lever and putting it on an unstable surface - the rings! - and, by doing so, we are seriously amping up the intensity on this skill. 😮💨 Your steps to follow: 1️⃣ Test out the skill on parallettes or parallel bars first. You want to feel stable through your wrists and strong through your arms. 2️⃣ On rings, rotate your palms out and have your forearms resting against the wood with your elbows pushing into your abdomen. By pushing into the rings, you should be able to lift your feet off the floor. 3️⃣ By pushing your elbows further into your hips, attempt to lean forward; this should allow you to elevate your legs, even if only just a little. 4️⃣ If the previous step is too much, fold yourself over your elbows and hang upside down while bracing your core. This position will allow you to take notice of your glutes - attempt to clench them. 5️⃣ To elevate your chest, bend your knees first to shorten the lever length, making the hold easier. Your arms are effectively performing a reverse bicep curl in this position so expect to feel this in your arms. 6️⃣ From said position, try to extend your legs out and I highly recommend working on this element on parallettes first - this way you’ll get used to the instability from extending your legs. 7️⃣ I highly recommend working on ring elbow levers and shoulderstands together as they are so closely connected - you could unlock two skills at the same time! ☺️ Remember - there are fewer rules around this one, just the joy of discovery and learning through play.
