@theboilerdoctoryork: Heating engineers wanting to get into air con This one’s for you Ignore the keyboard warriors in the comments trying to catch you out with trick questions They’re not testing your knowledge they’re protecting their patch Get qualified. Do quality work. Let them type To the handful of AC lads who’ve reached out and helped me. Respect. That’s how an industry should work #airconditioning #heatingengineer #hvac #gassafe #tradesoftiktok
I believe if you don't know the ins and out then don't install them I've been to so many installs whats done wrong or go do fault finding for people who dont have a clue

as an Air con engineer go for it, single splits couldn't be easier. you won't be stealing our work as we do the complicated installs like VRVs and VRFs which is like unlimited indoor units on a few condensors.
I started doing domestic houses then moved to commercial industrial then moved into refrigeration and I'd happily say it takes 20 years to get to that point.

it's not about installing it's when it's done wrong. Also it's about when things go wrong and knowing how to fix things it's more complicated than people know. that comes with experience. 7 year warranty. when things go wrong relying on tech office can be a pain. anyway lad I wish you all the best. I'm 20 years In. any help you need give me a shout. respect. 👍

Won’t be long before the air conditioning industry is saturated with engineers like the gas industry

Well said, I have a install coming up and I’d love to post on here but I just know there’s going to be so much negativity from it. Surly they were once in ours shoes and should be encouraging. Because the way I see it like it or not there is not enough f gas engineers with this rapid heat waves year on year.

4 years at college for my city & guilds to be a heating & vent engineer. The last time I checked the only qualification is the F gas cert and a fast track training scheme but maybe I’m wrong

As a Sparkie that started doing ac and refrigeration over 20 years ago I say diversity, I’ve never been out of work or even slack for that matter. If you’ve got the motivation to learn there’s no limit what you can achieve. It’s a massive industry. Oh and to be honest I’ve seen some absolutely awful installs done by AC companies over the years. One in particular springs to mind when I call called to a site where the ac wasn’t working. After some searching I found the condenser unit in a hole in the ground with a grate for ventilation covering it 😳 the pit was full of water and half way up the twin fan condenser. I wish I kept the photos now!

I have been a Ac Engineer now for over 25 years, and am quite happy for people or other Engineers to up skill, after all it s evolution, for me the Fgas was a fairly easy 1 day course, however, is there a similar course I could do to be able to fit boilers or other gas appliances in a similar time scale for when the Installs cool off in winter time ?

There is absolutely nothing fancy an air con installer can do that any competent person can’t.

100% bang on. It's one of the reasons so few young people get into the trades in the first place, never mind experienced lads looking to upskill or move into another trade. Instead of trying to catch people out, we should be encouraging them. 👏
