The TR6 entered the market as BMC stopped making the Austin Healey 3000. The Japanese had already assessed the sports car market and the Datsun 240z was their car to replace the big Healey. British manufacturers made no attempt to compete and the market felt to the Japanese. Between 1969 and 1979 the sports car market was completely lost.
