yeah i guess we are gonna ignore how he started opening up and getting involved with the sinners more and more, at first he refused to even tell information about himself despite being asked to by gregor, later on he started talking to the sinners unprompted (for example advising don to focus on her breath and talking to sinclair about him being distressed by the social situation at h corp in an attempt to improve his state), he valued heathcliffs life over the golden bough despite it being the priority target of the lcb, popped ego all by himself and acted out of line, he also started doing favors without dantes orders like the massages in the lcb check-up, he shared a very personal fact about his mother scolding him like outis did scold heathcliff and don in the miracle intervallo, he definitely conversed with rodion about his teaching plan in spring cultivation (by taking her advice on using your own special talents for the lesson topic), also he started being way more proactive in combat in comparison to the start of canto 3 where he just stood and did nothing until siegfried was 3 seconds away from the sinners AND his manager, in contrast to that he immediately pulled dante away from danger in twining threads and generally interacted more with his surroundings, he spoke to the dihui star in canto 9 talking about their intentions to reclaim the bough and in the canto 8 ending CG he was seen talking to xichun and wei regarding old documents due to xichun most likely having to manage information manually again, hells chicken is self explanatory and we can clearly see that he was also actively using puns in his ramble indicating his less serious side, in S.E.A. he literally conversed with ryoshu using SANGRIA which shows that he does step out of his usual and strictly blunt attitude as seen in those two examples, also he joins the conversation about smoking in canto 9 too and once again opens up about his personal side despite it having no purpose for his job, upon closer examination you can notice him doing unexpected and simpler things in CGs like playing the panflute in canto 2, being a mess with ketchup in canto 3 and learning how to smile at the end of c7

people just get on this app and lie for no reason man. i think the fact that he went from not doing anything or revealing information unless he was explicitly told or asked to to restraining the erlking in canto 6 is pretty clear development even if his stoic behavior remains the same

ah yes. the character known for being stoic and only listening to orders. lets see... is there any change in that in all 9 cantos? well, if i may point your attention to canto 6. this single canto has not one but TWO moments that show meursault having growth. one. he initially states what the BEST route to get the golden bough is once shit starts to go down in the wuthering heights, before also stating the best way to ensure heathcliff's safety. but even that pales in comparison to, need i remind you, the man who won't do something unless ordered, TAKING INITITIATIVE AND RESTRAINING THE ERLKING WITHOUT ANY COMMANDS GIVEN. you cant argue "oh it made sense in the moment" cause meursault doesn't do things like that. dante never gave an inkling of an order for him to restrain erlking heathcliff. he just did that. you can't complain about a sinner getting "no development" when hes neither the most talkative sinner or one of the sinners to have a canto so far. will you shame outis for having little to no development? or faust? even then, they're much more consistently involved and thus have more moments where they will grow. hell, looking at other sinners, does don quixote grow much before her canto? or hong lu? really the only standout case is heathcliff. everyone else either had their canto early enough that it doesnt matter or is clearly having their development put off on purpose (rodion). tl;dr: mf meursault hasn't had his fucking canto yet.
