He's not a fraud. Morgan Militechhand did the job for Militech, and faded away into legend. Johnny was the public face of it, and that's really all that matters. Arasaka doesn't fear his gun, but they fear him inspiring people. He inspired Yorinobu 50 years after his death, he inspired V. Saburo mentioned him in his diary and wanted to nuke Night City into dust if his relic somehow "got into the wrong hands". He may not have lead the attack on Arasaks but calling Johnny, a fraud, bum or irrelevant is factually wrong. Also this is just a theory but I'm pretty sure Arasaka edited his memories to erase Morgan so it didn't look like a successful Militech job and looked like a self-absorbent rockerboy's blunder. But that's about it. One of the best written characters and character development in fiction.

I love John John [God bless u tdy, Jesus loves u]

He was a bum. But that’s what made his character beautiful, it’s like a mentor that wants you to do all the things he wasn’t able to do
