Haven’t posted here in a while and got lots to catch you up on! Our plan for our first day in Paris was simple: Luxembourg Park. Routing us there was my job and I had everything mapped out from our hotel with our bus tickets ready. Except… about 20 minutes into the ride after taking in the sights and excitement from the kids, I figured we were almost there so paid attention to what stop to get off. But then I didn’t recognize any of the stops. I looked at Dan and “we’re going the wrong way…🤦🏻‍♀️” I asked the bus driver who pointed us to the right stop and we switched buses. Once we got on the next bus, I kept refreshing the map because there was no way it was another 40 min (17 stops to be exact), right? We, indeed, arrived 40 minutes later, but not before the bus got very crowded and the kids started asking why it was taking so long and that they were hot. They were such troopers though and did so great because even that ride was long and hot for us, but we were trying to keep our cool and even made a game to countdown the stops from 17. Our kids have really taught me to slow down and they remind me to enjoy the journey. They didn’t even know what Luxembourg Park was, they were happy to just be with us, admiring the sights, asking all the questions, and living in the moment. Watching how they handled the detour reminded me of something important: it’s not just how kids see us when things go as planned, it’s how they see us handle the bumps, the detours, and the unexpected twists. They felt safe because we stayed calm, and had smiles on their faces because we didn’t let it ruin our moods (even though I was pretty annoyed at myself). They see how we work together as a team to be solution-based and how we respond to mistakes with self-compassion and understanding. Traveling has given us so many opportunities to navigate challenges as a team, which has created an even stronger family bond. By the time we arrived, Luxembourg Park felt like the reward it truly was with ice cream, little boats, carousels, playgrounds, and just how stunning it all was. Every wrong turn and extra minute was worth it. Do you have any fun stories getting lost?
