Apparently, the children are supposed to supervise themselves while their parents figure out how to afford existing. BUT WAIT. WE HAVE AN ENDOWMENT. Governor Lamont’s administration has invested more than $700 MILLION into an early-childhood education fund. Beginning in July 2027, eligible families earning under $100,000 are expected to receive free childcare in participating state-funded programs. Higher-income families would pay no more than 7% of household income for those spaces. That’s meaningful progress. NOW COMES THE PART WHERE WE ASK QUESTIONS. How many childcare spaces will actually be available? How many eligible families will get one? What happens to parents who can’t find a participating provider? And what relief is available for families paying these bills RIGHT NOW? Because putting $700 million into an endowment is not the same as putting affordable childcare within reach of every working parent. Connecticut needs childcare workers to be paid fairly. Providers need sustainable funding. Parents need somewhere safe to leave their children. All three things can be true. GOVERNOR, PARENTS AREN’T ASKING FOR LUXURY DAYCARE WITH A PERSONAL CHEF AND A CONCIERGE.
