honestly I find that making a very detailed underpainting makes the process of putting base colors easier for me, it even makes me want to leave certain areas of the underpainting to give it a certain look, well at least I always make very detailed underpaintings

If you can get it just right, you could use watercolor to slightly tint certain things to make it look more colorful, but keep the same look that it has now

This is common in more grisaille type methods. You could just use a glaze over it and it should turn out cute : ))

Hear me out. This looks very similar to older paintings that have aged and or been around smoke and stuff. You could take this and maybe make it look like it’s been partially cleaned or something??? So like just some bright spots of the color you wanted initially
