With streamlined bodies, webbed feet, and dense waterproof fur, they are exceptional swimmers that hunt fish, crabs, shellfish, and other aquatic prey with speed and agility. Many otter species are highly social, living in family groups and communicating through a variety of vocalizations and body language. Some, like the sea otter, are also known for using tools such as rocks to crack open shellfish, making them one of the few non-primate mammals that regularly use tools in the wild.
