I THINK I FOUND THE REPORTER! Shana Alexander, she was a staff writer for LIFE in 1965 and is listed in the masthead for the issue. She would have been 40 in 1965 which seems about right. I can only find images where she’s a bit older but really looks like her.

The Church with the circle window is at 353 Broome street, next to waterlily spa, it looks identical

There was a magazine called Skateboard Quarterly which featured Patti McGee in their October 1965 issue, so maybe this guy is in the magazine. Also, the Hilton Brothers (Uncles of Paris) were on the Hobie Skateboard Team, maybe they would know.

These skateboards were produced by the Vita-Pakt Citrus Company owned by Barron Hilton. His two sons Dave and Steve were avid skateboarders and anxious for his father to get into the skateboarding industry. I looked at photos of the two and this guy resembles Steve Hilton. Although I think he was too young at that time. But maybe this bit of info helps. There was also a documentary being filmed by Bruce Brown following Pat Magee. You might find more footage there.

From what I can tell, the sign in the back reads "MATERNITY SHOP". Upon further research, it might have been on the corner of Broome street, where a church with a circular window is also located (Our Lady of Vilnius Roman Catholic Church).
