@alsword: The Siege of Jerusalem lasted from September 20 to October 2, 1187, when Balian of Ibelin surrendered the city of Jerusalem to Sultan Saladin. Earlier that summer, Saladin had defeated the army of the kingdom and captured a number of cities. Balian was entrusted with organizing the defense of Jerusalem. The city was crowded with refugees but lacked sufficient soldiers. Despite this, the defenders managed to repel several attempts by Saladin’s army to storm the city by force. Balian later negotiated with Saladin to secure safe passage for a large number of the city’s inhabitants, and Jerusalem was ultimately surrendered peacefully with only limited bloodshed. #History #saladin #explore #crusader #jerusalem
