I’m a W2 employee, posting on LinkedIn for 2 years. I never mention my day job, never mention that I am building a consultancy. All my posts are informational and educational related to my industry. After a while, people start to DM you with questions because they see you as the “go to” for that topic. I’ve gained clients from those DMs because I let them know I am also a consultant who can do the xyz that they are looking for.
