@henryfudgeofficial: Watch one room at a Formula 1 race or a World Cup final. The richest fly in wearing nothing with a logo on it and leave before the trophy is lifted. The tier below films all of it, head to toe in labels. The bottom watches from a flat they cannot afford, being sold the odds. This is what wealth inequality looks like when you put the whole distribution in one frame. Veblen described half of it in 1899. This is the other half. #behavioraleconomics #economics #wealthinequality #inequality #rentierblackhole
Funnily enough, I said to my husband this morning that I feel like I'm constantly being pummelled with money competitions at the moment. It feels like every radio station or TV channel have gone into overdrive with these things, capitalising on others desperation.

What is mind blowing, and I might be way off the mark, but surely has an impact on the consumer are companies like Aramco spending $400m on the World Cup sponsorship. Eye watering for a state company that needs absolutely no marketing at this level.

It would be interesting to hear your take on events such as Royal Ascot & Grand national and where they fit. They seem very much in the same group as Wimbledon yet promoted as betting events similar to the World Cup

My Dad worked in Bahrain at the airport - used to send my copies of the flights booked in and out. It was wild. Then when I worked in the exhibition hall next to Farnborough airport. An insane number of private jet movements.

It’s all kind of gross. At the end of the day, all we’re doing is sharing what we can get from the planet to keep ourselves going. Whether we share it in a way that makes sense. We’re not is the only question.

Too much focus on 'class', whatever it is supposed to mean. Zuckerberg for one did not become wealthy by holding a rent producing asset; he created products millions of people use.

The billionaires seem scared, the bottom is scrambling for anyway to get above the reference for the life that used to be promised they gamble taking huge risks. The middle and upper middle, parade around pretending to be the upper, right when they shouldn’t be, the billionaires are pretty validly worried and history tells why

TRUE. I see this every year at the Royal Enclosure within Ascot. New rich or first timers at the Royal Enclosure are the ones carrying Hermes Products, ostentatious watches and super cars and some even arrive in helicopters.
The regular ones are far more discreet and tend to arrive and leave via the famous car park one.
Ascot is the most fascinating social event to watch people not horses haha

And re gambling…. There’s a reason Bet365 / BetFred are making billions a year. Everyone trying to get lucky out of their struggle. I wonder how much of their profit is actually dole money?

Don’t neglect the corporate box-dwellers, none of whom paid for their tickets, bought for them under the pretence of “performing business”. Every corporation flattering every other corporation in an expensive circle-jerk, the cost for which is all passed down to the plans at home through their subscriptions and bills for absolutely everything - the suckers.
