And oh how we forget the pension you’ll receive when you retire. There isn’t many companies out there that offer a pension.

I love my job as a mail carrier 11 years in. However, this job is not for the weak.

I'm not speaking for everyone, but in the majority of post offices, the job has become more toxic, more stressful, and more mentally exhausting than ever. It doesn't stay at work anymore, it follows carriers home, affects their families, their health, and their personal lives. And with wages falling further behind inflation every year, and no more overtime.
many are asking themselves the same question: Is it even worth sacrificing your peace of mind anymore? 15 years career here.

The amount of ridiculous behavior that you have to endure from your coworkers is what makes this job suck. I have young children & have to fight with people with grown children for days off. Especially around the holidays, go figure. Before I became regular I worked 7 days a week!!!!! For 2 almost 3 years!!! I barely remember those years. Then I become regular and am made to feel guilty when I take days. It’s insane. I ran nearly 50 rural routes in those 3 years. I’ve been considering going back to subbing. At least subbing there’s a change and I can avoid burnout.

The post office is a great job is what you make it. All the crafts have union protection. It’s damn near impossible to get fired.. the TSP is awesome, depending on your contributions. You get a lot of federal perks that the average public sector job does not get any. You can quit anytime and come right back as long as you fill out the correct form.. my advice to her is to wait for opening as a custodian. Because custodians are part of the maintenance department and it’s a great job. The workload is light and their career employees but if she absolutely insist on quitting the post office just do it the correct way fill out the correct form. And if you apply for a private sector job, make sure it’s a good union job.. or union friendly job like Costco some grocery stores, for example, or union work under a union contract. Etc

when they say good/great benefits you mean once you retire I’m assuming? You can’t tell me any benefit that you can use right now that you can’t get at any other job. EAP is everywhere. Medical is everywhere. 401k is everywhere. What benefit can you use while you’re actively working that’s better than any other place.
