Episode 8 : The Eyes _____ --------------------------- Hyunjin's POV Felix sat on my couch, drinking a glass of water like he'd been coming to my apartment for years. I was still trying to process how he'd even found me. Apparently, he'd seen some guy buying... questionable hacking equipment. Then he'd somehow convinced the guy to find my apartment in exchange for 50% off everything. I stared at him. “That's actually impressive.” Felix shrugged. “I get things done.” “Apparently.” He continued talking. A lot. He jumped from one subject to another so quickly that I barely had time to respond. I didn't mind. Actually... I liked listening to him. I found myself sitting quietly, watching him talk, occasionally smiling at something he said. It was nice. I'd forgotten what it felt like to simply enjoy someone's company. Eventually, I stood up. “I'll take that.” I reached for the glass in his hand. He gave it to me. I turned toward the kitchen. Then— “I saw your eyes yesterday.” I stopped. Felix's voice was quieter now. “Are you really blind?” There it was. The question I'd been expecting. The question I knew would eventually lead somewhere I didn't want to go. I slowly turned around. “No.” I removed my glasses. My eyes were exposed. Golden. Slit pupils. Like a snake's. I kept my gaze lowered. Felix was silent. Then he asked, “Why aren't you looking at me?” “Because if I look directly at you...” I paused. “You'll turn to stone.” Silence. He stared at me. Then his expression changed. I could almost see the memory forming in his head. The old story. The priestess who was cursed. The woman whose hair became snakes. The monster whose gaze could turn people to stone. Medusa. My mother. I waited. I expected screaming. Fear. Maybe him running out of my apartment. Instead... “So...” I blinked. “So?” “Are the gods actually real?” I stared at him. “What?” “Like, Zeus and all of them?” I almost laughed. “That's your first question?” “I'm curious!” He leaned forward. “What about all the myths? Which ones are true? Which ones aren't?” I shook my head. “I don't know.” “You don't know?” “I wasn't exactly invited to Mount Olympus.” He laughed. Then he suddenly frowned. “Wait.” “What?” “How do you style your hair?” I stared at him. “I don't.” “No, but—” He paused. His eyes widened. “Wait.” I already knew what he'd realized. “Medusa doesn't actually have hair.” I sighed. “Now you're getting it.” I put my glasses back on. Then I reached for my hat. “Okay.” I took it off. The snakes immediately began hissing. Several lifted their heads, looking toward Felix. I froze. Felix froze. The snakes stared at him. For a few seconds, nobody moved. Then... They calmed down. One of them slowly moved closer to him. Felix leaned back slightly. He looked terrified. But... He was smiling. “You're weird.” I looked at him. “You're sitting in the apartment of Medusa's son.” He nodded. “Fair point.” One of the snakes flicked its tongue toward him. Felix laughed nervously. “Does that one like me?” I looked at the snake. Then at Felix. “I think so.” He smiled. “Cool.” I stared at him. This guy had just discovered that my hair was made of snakes... And somehow he was having fun. I shook my head. He's so weird. And somehow... I really liked that. #hyunlix #straykids #BookTok #read #hyunlix
