Hi, it's Juliana! It's really common for narcissistic parents to make resting feel like a crime. I talk about this a lot, but the reason for this is the following: They see their children as extensions of themselves, not as separate humans. You're not a person, you're a tool for their self-worth. So just like you judge the usefulness of your arms, legs, and hands by how well they function, they judge you by how well you function (i.e., what you do for them). If you're not being useful, productive, or performing, they see you as failing at your "job." And often lash out in some type of way. So over time you associate resting with danger, or at the very least, something wrong. One thing you can do about this is to name rest as safe while you're doing it. The next time you're resting say (out loud or in your head): "Nothing bad is happening. I'm not in trouble. I'm allowed to rest." This can help you begin undoing the association you made between rest and negative consequences. To your healing, Juliana ❤️🩹
