Calling Uther 'true evil' misses the entire tragedy of his character. When you're older, you realize he wasn’t a monster who killed for fun; he was a deeply traumatized man whose grief turned into obsession. If Ygraine hadn't died from the magical deal he made, the Purge never would have happened. The Reality for Regular Citizens: If you lived in Camelot as a normal person, you would absolutely fear magic. 99% of the time Camelot was attacked, it was by a rogue sorcerer. Magic to a non-user is completely unpredictable and dangerous. Nimueh Proved His Point: People like Nimueh literally proved his fears right by trying to poison Camelot's water supply and ruin the kingdom. As King, his job was to protect his people from weapons of mass destruction. Gaius's Perspective: Gaius constantly reminds Merlin of the good Uther did. Gaius lived through the chaos before Uther took the throne, when the land was torn apart by warring warlords and dark magic. Uther brought law, order, and decades of peace to ordinary people. The Ultimate Irony: It’s pretty ironic when fans judge Uther's entire character so harshly without trying to understand his perspective—it sounds a lot like Uther passing judgment without looking at the full picture! He definitely let his trauma turn his justice into brutality, but he wasn't pure evil.

he thought he was in the right which makes him arrogant,Nimueh was trying to bring magic back, Morgana was full of hatred and jealousy for Uther and so was Morgouse. Both women just wanted magic, Mordred was manipulated by Morgana,the only reason any of those people were thought of as evil was because of Uther's doing,which makes it incredibly ironic in how magic took his wife then he was so blinded by hatred that he killed his own son (indirectly).

If I remember right, Nimue did tell Uther that magic had chosen Ygraine to die in order to save Arthur when in reality, she Nimue had chosen to sacrifice Ygraine. I do not condone Uther's actions but Nimue's lies is what caused Uther to declare war on magic. He wasn't a fan of it before but Nimue's actions and lies made his hatred run too deep to be stopped
