why does Stihl equipment have a reputation for not running when it gets hot outside. 90°-100°f

Seen this before, only on high hour 250's crankshaft wears in a way that the flywheel side come out of time just enough to advance the timing

I see this every now and then. Take off the rewind cover and try to wiggle the flywheel left to right or up and down. Sometimes the crank will wear in a weird way and the oil seals will still seal enough to run, but will allow enough movement to mess with the pawls. If the flywheel moved at all, that's what is doing it. The only other thing I can think of is that the flywheel key is sheared but not completely. If I ever find something I don't understand, I tear em down until I do. It helps if I ever encounter it again in the future. To be fair though, it may just have amazing compression. The rings and piston may have worn in just the right way so that with enough lubrication in the cylinder, its near perfect clearances.

bore scope it and see if there's alot of carbon on top of the piston

Check timing on the flywheel sum may be up with that sounds like a time issue i know husky stuff will break a keyway and change time and not run worth a fuck at all

My MS251 has been gold. Is there that much difference between the 250 and 251?

Carbon on piston and head will raise the compression way up. They sometimes squeeze the carbon between the head and piston. I had one do that with the wrong model flywheel installed on it. It acted like a sheared keyway. It would destroy a recoil.

Cool breeze :
The way it’s acting is almost like it don’t have enough oil in the gas mixture, I know if it had little to none in it, the obvious it would grenade itself, but let’s just say it’s enough to keep it from blowing up, but enough for the piston and rings be dragging hard making it feel like a cross between blowing up, but still be runnable as crazy as that sounds. Tear it down, and check the old parts.

Our Stihl line trimmer does the same thing. Very hard to pull, and the runs like a champ.
