I get what you're saying but let me say my hair is very similar to yours and I've had people say my hair is not 4c when they see it in stretched forms. This is how my hair curls with a little help from a blow dryer to stretch it out. But I can stretch it out more depending on if I blow dry it more, or do twist/braid out. I just call my hair type 4 at this point because no one ever seems to agree 😭

no literally i have 4c hair and im tired of people saying “it’s 4b it’s just dry and malnourished and needs a trim” girl quiet! when i moisturize it and use my unbrush you can clearly see that 4c.

They don’t understand how detrimental that is imagine being a little girl with 4c hair and you’re searching for help but you keep seeing looser textures, and wondering why your hair isn’t operating the same. Because most people think they have 4c because it’s short coarse dry or frizzy. 4c is a curl pattern not a texture.

If it wasn’t for the hair typing chart it would be 10x harder to find 4c content. So even with the cons I’ll take the pros. Mind you the cons are just being told “you’re not 4c” because they are not.

I get what you mean, but one head can have multiple textures. My hair literally has the whole type 4 chart — the front, sides, middle, and back all act differently. Some parts need more washing, others need more moisture and product. The chart helps, but you still have to adjust for each section.

The challenge is that the hair chart doesn’t take into account strand size or hair density. Fine coils can take on a different appearance than coarse coils. Same for surface appearance…there’s fine 4c hair with “glassy” (shiny) appearance and coarse 4c with cottony appearance. All of this causes confusion.

At this point, I just say type 4 and keep it pushing. Everyday, 4C gets a new definition. Idk if I have it or not but I know my hair isn't 4A.

I stopped looking for help. I just my oils and braid her up! she stays fresh. oiled. and protects my coils from all the breakage of daily maintenance. 😭 I just dont follow the black hair community anymore. Im never "enough" or do "enough" of anything to be considered anyway 🤣

I’m so tired of the damn chart. No 4c will be the exact same . No 4b will look the exact same . I’ve seen people with actual 4c but there will always be someone in the comments saying they are lying . There is someone in this comment section saying the creator doesn’t have 4c

it's tough because I have several different curl patterns on my head. when I need techniques for the 4C part I can't find it. Its disheartening. And the people with the loose curls be the first ones to make suggestions that you KNOW won't work 😭😭😭
