@erinrackham: I was a trained EMDR (Eye Movememt Desensitization & Reprocessing) therapist before I got sick, so please don’t do EMDR on yourself like I did here. I only did it because I’ve been doing EMDR for over 10 years now and know my limits of what’s safe for myself and not. This was a simple, one-incident memory I knew I could tackle without too much fallout. I’m sharing it because I’ve had countless moments like this with more intense traumatic memories & I’m forever grateful I was introduced to EMDR in grad school! It has helped me feel “safe enough” to live more embodied than dissociated, which is no small feat for my internal system. ❤️🩹 #emdr #traumawork #phobia #dissociation
Do you need a specific memory to do emdr? I have a needle/medical phobia but no idea where it came from. I tried hypnosis once but it didn’t do anything

No one should be doing EMDR on themselves without a professional present

Anyone watching this: please do not do “EMDR” on yourself the way she is describing. This is against everything suggested by EMDRIA, and safe EMDR practices.

Doesn't EMDR have to have the light thingy that goes back and forth? How would self EMDR even work?

If this offers you any comfort as someone who’s been stung by wasps as a child as well as an adult. It hurt a lot more as a child. As you can imagine the concept of pain as a child is very uncomfortable, very scary and there’s isn’t really a systematic spectrum within us where we can name the pain and place it. As an adult it’s still painful but it’s not pain as you would imagine pain it’s more of a discomfort, an annoyance or at the very least a noticeable moment of pain and then a quick downward ease from that pain. Like 15sec after you are in less pain than you were when uou got stung. 30 sec even less and by a minute you’re in even less. In literally 30

I have chilled out about wasps in the last few years. When they fly around me I say, "Ope, guess you just gotta verify I'm not a flower." 😂
