Supergirl has always lived in Superman's shadow… but maybe that's exactly what makes her so fascinating. Kara Zor-El first appeared in DC Comics in 1959, created by Otto Binder and Al Plastino. DC had experimented with earlier "Super-Girl" concepts, but Kara became the version that truly connected with readers. Unlike Superman, she actually remembered Krypton, giving her a very different perspective and emotional depth. She wasn't simply a female Superman—she was someone who had lost an entire world. Over the decades, Supergirl became one of DC's most recognizable heroines, but Hollywood has never quite managed to give her the movie she deserves. The 1984 film starring Helen Slater has become a cult classic, yet few would call it a truly great superhero film. Years later, Sasha Calle brought a darker, more powerful interpretation in The Flash and was widely considered one of that movie's biggest highlights, but she never got the chance to continue the role. Ironically, Supergirl has often worked better on television than on the big screen. Laura Vandervoort became a fan favorite in Smallville, while Melissa Benoist carried Supergirl for six seasons and introduced Kara to an entirely new generation of DC fans. For many viewers, those TV versions are still the definitive live-action portrayals of the character. Now Milly Alcock has stepped into the cape with a version inspired by Woman of Tomorrow. Her performance has already received plenty of praise, even from viewers who are divided on the film itself. Just like the recent Superman movie, reactions have been mixed. Most people seem to agree it's neither a bad film nor an instant classic, but Milly Alcock is consistently mentioned as one of its biggest strengths. And that raises a much bigger question. For more than six decades, Supergirl has had memorable actresses, beloved TV adaptations and flashes of brilliance on the big screen... So when will Supergirl finally appear in a truly outstanding movie? Will it be her own solo film? Or will her defining moment come as part of someone else's story? Because after all this time, that's the one thing still missing. What's your favorite live-action version of Supergirl? #Supergirl #MillyAlcock #Superman #DC #JamesGunn
