This is conscious connected breathing. No pause between the inhale and exhale. Just a circular wave of breath pulled in deep and released without effort. ⠀ Here’s what’s actually happening in your body. ⠀ When you breathe like this, you flood your system with oxygen and drop your CO2. That drop is called hypocapnia. It triggers respiratory alkalosis, which shifts your blood pH and changes how oxygen binds in your blood. The vessels in your brain constrict slightly. That’s where the lightheadedness, the tingling, the euphoria, and the sense of leaving your body come from. ⠀ It’s not magic. It’s physiology. But the doorway it opens is real. ⠀ Then comes the breath hold. ⠀ In the yogic tradition, breath retention is called Kumbhaka. There are two kinds, and they do completely different things. ⠀ Antara Kumbhaka. The inhale hold. You fill the lungs and pause at the top. Builds pressure, raises CO2, expands lung capacity, pushes prana upward and out. Energizing. Activating. Charged. ⠀ Bahya Kumbhaka. The exhale hold. You empty everything and pause at the bottom. Blood pressure drops. Parasympathetic kicks in. You sink into stillness. This is the void. The reset. ⠀ Inside these holds, you can engage the bandhas. The internal locks. ⠀ Mula Bandha. The root lock. A subtle lift of the pelvic floor. Seals energy at the base of the spine. ⠀ Uddiyana Bandha. The upward flying lock. Belly drawn in and up under the ribs. Only done on the exhale hold because the lungs need to be empty. Massages the organs and lights up the vagus nerve. ⠀ Jalandhara Bandha. The throat lock. Chin tucked toward the chest. Locks energy in and prevents pressure from rising too far into the head. ⠀ All three together is called Maha Bandha. The great lock. ⠀ This is one of the oldest technologies of consciousness on the planet. It’s how you change your state without anything outside of you. ⠀ Click the link in my bio if you want to learn how to use it. ⠀ #breathwork #consciousconnectedbreathing #pranayama #nervoussystemregulation #noomatics
