I started having beef with all digital when Microsoft office stopped being available through the disc download.

I love my kindle, but did you hear about how some ebooks are "updating" and literally changing the story so it sounds "more current"?? Someone noticed it happened with Pretty Little Liars. I am so uncomfortable with that

Well said! I also am not anti digital, it’s the control that bothers me. It takes away actual ownership. Like when that product decides it’s outdated and won’t support older tech anymore, your digital purchases are no longer useable. Exactly like you said! Imagine spending your hard earned money on something a multi billion dollar company can just revoke access to at any time! So frustrating.

Have to say I am anti digital media, physical media will always be better in my opinion. I hate the idea of paying £15 a month for Netflix when I could just buy my favourite movies on DVD for 10-50p in charity shops and have them forever

If you can’t sell it, gift it, or loan it to someone, you don’t own it.

It’s also the fact that you never really own it- you’re just renting it. For example, Amazon can now decide to stop selling a book you have bought and it removes itself from your kindle. WRT games - Nintendo does this with a lot of its games. You have to buy a non- transferable code. Which means you can’t sell it on and people, who cannot afford the higher prices, cannot buy it for cheaper. It’s just iffy

It’s been dying for years, 85% of all game purchases are digital. The market has spoken

Not being being able to lend a game I bought to a friend will annoy me so much, no second hand games either. Also the games are not dropping in price based on the GTA6 digital only

As a Millenial I am personally and deeply offended by the inability to get physical media.

Well said bro, personally I’ve been getting my games physically literally for years. I only really do digital when I can’t get a physical copy.

The handwritten letter just made me gasp because it’s the thoughtfulness, and intention that radiates from small gestures like that! This post was EVERYTHING Smitty!! As a millennial, I see the benefits of both, but nothing will ever compare to the physicalities in life!

I used to buy only kindle books but I stopped. Now I only get physical books and just use the kindle for Libby books. I like being able to loan books out too.

You’re right - it’s about having the choice. Digital only is the definition of “You will own nothing and will be happy about it.” “Buying” digital media is the buying of “access” to the product, not the ownership of it. It can be pulled at any time.

And this is why I buy physical copies of books I love bc I anticipate them doing this to e-books one day.

Speaking as a PS owner and having owned every PS console only. This announcement from PS is especially devastating because they also don’t allow you access to any of your games (whether or not they are downloaded to your console) if you’re not connected to WiFi they can’t “verify the license”. I recently moved into a new house and we were told they can’t set up WiFi for 2 weeks. I had my console with some games downloaded, (my physical games were in a box somewhere), I couldn’t play a single game due to no WiFi connection. PS also have insanely stupid prices on their PS store. I’ve already started mapping out any games I still need to get physically. I have digital content, but I want my physical🙏🏼

I've been collecting physical media and I won't stop. As much as I appreciate the “get it now” access with digital media I will emphasize how important it is to own what you buy. I hope Sony backs down on this.

This could happen to everything too. Like Bluerays and DVDs, music, books. It’s scary honestly. Even money
